The US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) delegation conducted field surveys in the Izmir region during the second part of their visit to Turkey. USSEC Regional Director B. Babb, Global Aquaculture and Livestock Director M. Cheatam, United Soybean Board Director and soybean producer Thomas Frisch, and American Soybean Association representative and soybean producer Ryan Frieders met with important sector representatives under the guidance of USSEC Turkey Country Manager Sırrı Kayhan.
The delegation’s first stop in Izmir was Abalıoğlu Oil Industry facilities, one of Turkey’s leading soybean oil producers. During the meeting with Abalıoğlu Oil Industry Board Chairman Baha Abalıoğlu and his team, information was obtained about the soybean oil industry and production processes in Turkey. The USSEC delegation then examined the facilities on site and made detailed observations about the production processes.
The second stop of the program was Akvatek Hatchery Facilities in Dikili Denizköy. During the meeting with Akvatek Board Chairman Güngör Muhtaroğlu and his team, the Turkish aquaculture sector and Akvatek’s activities were discussed. The delegation toured the hatchery facilities and received information about the development of the sector. Following the visit, the USSEC team had the opportunity to taste the fish produced by Akvatek for lunch.
USSEC’s field visits witnessed important contacts aimed at strengthening cooperation and information sharing with the soy and aquaculture sectors in Turkey.
