The 9th Regional Aquaculture Production and Investment Conference organized by the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) was successfully held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on May 2-5, 2025, hosted by the Kempinski Hotel.
The conference brought together leading academics, investors and professionals from Europe, Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions and brought many topics to the agenda such as soy-based feeds, aquaculture technologies, regional investment opportunities and sustainable aquaculture production.
The event, which began with the opening speech of USSEC Regional Director Brent Babb, included USDA, USB and USSEC officials, as well as over 20 experts and industry representatives from Middle East and North Africa countries, sharing their knowledge and experiences. Feed formulation optimization in fish and shrimp farming, IPRS systems, soy protein concentrate (SPC) were among the prominent topics.
AVES General Manager Muhammed İdin from Türkiye shared detailed information with the participants about “Soy Protein Concentrate (SPC) Production and Its Importance for Aquaculture Feeds” which they started to produce in their facilities in Mersin. In addition, Aegean Exporters’ Association Board Member Bedri Girit made a comprehensive presentation on aquaculture and investment potential in Turkey, and USSEC Turkey Representative Sırrı Kayhan provided information about aquaculture feed formulation and the international aquaculture feed database (IAFFD).
Thanks to the panels, one-on-one meetings and networking sessions held throughout the conference, participants had the opportunity to establish new collaborations. This important event hosted by USSEC paved the way for the development of strategies that will contribute to the sustainable growth of the aquaculture sector.
